The BWI Trail is a 12.5 mile trail that circles BWI Airport in Linthicum, Maryland. The BWI Trail is completely paved trail that is completely off road. BWI is short for Baltimore Washington International Airport which is Maryland's primary airport.
BWI Trail is frankly a great ride. The trail offers a great view of incoming BWI Airport jets at The Thomas A. Dixon, Jr. aircraft observation area. This observation area is directly in-line with inbound planes landing. At the observation area there is a playground, bike racks and rest rooms. Farther along the trail there are shaded wooded sections, flat sunny sections and several hilly up and down sections as you traverse around BWI Airport. These hilly sections are short in length, but make for a great bike ride and an excellent workout for exercise enthusiasts. This biking, walking and jogging trail is very popular with locals and can be busy as times.
The trail passes several places for water and food, but they will require you to cross the highway. The trail is open dawn to dusk.
The BWI Trail connects to the very popular B&A Trail through a short connector trail. For the ambitious bike riders, these trails can be done as one trail for total mileage of over 40 miles.
