The
Delta Heritage Trail is a rail trail in southeastern
Arkansas. The site is a 73 mile track of formerly Union
Pacific Railroad which goes from one mile south of Lexa
to Cypress Blend. Fourteen miles of trail are currently
complete from Helena Junctions to the LakeView Community
near Old Town Lake.
The
trail surface
is compacted crushed rock with some areas paved. The
paved trail passes farms and is partially shaded. There
are many chances to see wildlife along the trail including
bird watching.
There
is a park visitor center where bikes can be rented.
The trail follows the Mississippi River and Hwy.85.
The trail does not have many accommodations along the
way so make plans ahead of time for food, water and
shelter.
