Maryland Rail Trail
Western
Maryland Rail Trail Overview
The Western
Maryland Rail Trail is a paved 23 mile rail trail located
near Fort Frederick State Park in Big Pool, Md. The trail
formerly the Western Maryland Railway is a popular destination
for bikers, hikers and in-line skaters because of its relatively
flat terrain and paved trail.
The trail
parallels the very popular unpaved C&O Canal along the
Potomac River and connects with the C&O in several places.
The trail
is a favorite during the Fall for watching the fall foliage.
A 4.5
mile extension is in the works from Old
Pearre
Station to Little Orleans, Md.
