Pere
Marquette Rail-Trail Overview
The
Pere Marquette Rail-Trail is a paved 30 mile trail located
in Michigan that starts in Midland, Mi and goes to just
outside Clare, Mi. This popular and fun trail follows
the former route of the Flint
and Pere Marquette Railroad.
The trail has much to see passing through the towns
of Midland, Stanford, Coleman, and Claire. Additional
connections are hoped for Farwell, Evart, Reed City
and Ludington.
The
trail stops at many parks and recreation areas that
include Veterans Memorial Park, Sandford Lake County
Park the Pine Haven Recreation Area, Emerson Park and
the Banking Grounds in Averill. Sanford Lake County
Park has picnic areas, playgrounds, a 1000 foot swimming
beach, boat launches, and restrooms. The Arbutus Bog
(about 10 miles from Midland) features a boardwalk that
visitors can use to venture out into the bog without
disturbing this habitat.
The
trail offers good access to food, restrooms and provisions.
