Allegheny
Highlands Trail of
Pennsylvania Overview
The
Allegheny Highlands Trail of Pennsylvania is a 31 mile rail
trail connecting Meyersdale, Pa to Confluence, Pa. The trail
will contine to Cumberland, Maryland and be 42 miles long.
The
Allegheny Highliands Trails is a component of a larger network
called the Great Allegheny Passage which will connect Pittsburgh
to Cumberland, Md. Biking trails which include the Great Allegheny
Passage will soon connect
Washington, DC to Pittsburgh, Pennsyslvania.
The Allegheny
Highlands Trail
follows the Casselman River for most of its length, is mostly
shaded and relatively flat. Points of interest on the trail
include the 800 foot Pinkerton Tunnel, the 1900 foot long
Salisbury Trestle and the Green Mountain Wind Farm (see left).
