Ghost
Town Trail
Ghost
Town Trail Overview
The
Ghost Town Trail is a 36 mile rail trail located in Indiana
and Cambria Counties of Pennsylvania.
The trail, designated as a National Recreation Trail, gets
its name from the many mining towns that once existed along
the railroad line.
The
Ghost
Town Trail
has grown
steadily from its original 16 miles in 1991. In addition to
the 36 miles from Blacklick to Ebensburg, there is a 4 mile
spur from Rexis to White Mill Station known as the Rexis Branch.
This spur begins near the Eliza Furnace, an iron furnace bilt
in 1846. The furnace is listed on the National Register of
Historic Places.
The
Ghost
Town Trail
is open to bicycling, hiking, and cross-country skiing. Be
sure to check with the trail managers regarding the progress
in building two missing bridges near Dilltown. There are no
current bypasses around these bridges at this time. However,
there is still good riding from Dilltown to Ebensburg (20
miles) and Dilltown to Blacklick (12 miles).
Ghost
Town Trail access
is located at Saylor Park, Heshbon, Dilltown, Wehrum, Vintondale,
Rexis, Red Mill, Twin Rocks, Nanty Glo, Ebensburg.
