Paul Bunyan Trail Overview
The
Paul Bunyan Trail is a planned 120 mile trail from Crow Wing State Park near Brainerd, MN to Lake Bemidji State Park (north of the town of Bemidji). The Paul Bunyan Trail currently has over 110 miles paved and more to follow. This trail is one of the longest paved trails in the United States.
The Paul Bunyan Trail passes through wooded and lakeside regions. There are many towns nearby and the area is rich in history. Towns along the way include Backus, Pine River, Pequot Lakes, Nisswa, and Hackensack.
The Paul Bunyan Trail is relatively flat with small hills with the exception of a 9 mile area in Chippewa National Forest northwest of Hackensack.
The trail has access to many types of lodging including bed & breakfasts, resorts and campgrounds.
The Paul Bunyan Trail is a popular trail in the Winter months with snowmobiles.
Several trails connect to the Paul Bunyan Trail including the Heartland Trail, the Cuyuna State Trail and the Blue Ox Trail.
