Root River Trail Overview
The
Root River Trail is a 42 mile paved rail trail in Southeastern Minnesota that passes through the towns of Harmony, Preston, Fountain, Lanesboro, Whalan, Peterson, Rushford and Houston. It is named after the Root River which is along the trail for most of the ride.
The
Root River Trail connects to the Harmony-Preston Valley Trail which follows Camp Creek creating a 60 mile trail if you are feeling energetic. The
Root River Trail is relatively flat or railroad grade and mostly rural with small towns and abundant wildlife such as deer, turkeys and hawks. The trail is known for its views of limestone bluffs. There are ample places for water and refreshments at the towns along the way.
