New
River Trail Overview
The
New River Trail State Park in Pulaski, Va is 57 miles long
and occupies an abandoned railroad line. The trail starts
in Pulaski and ends with junctions in both Galax and Fries,
Virginia.
The is
a very nice ride for rail trail enthusiasts. The terrain is
relatively flat with few steep hills. The trail is mostly
wooded for its entire length and parallels the the New River
for 39 miles. The New River Trail has many cool features such
as multiple bridge trestle crossings and two trail tunnels.
The trail is well maintained.
The trail
can be used for biking, hiking and horseback riding, Camping
is allowed at designated points.
Parking access is available only at Allisonia, Cliffview,
Draper, Foster Falls, Fries, and Pulaski.
