and Old Dominion Trail Overview
The
Washington & Old Dominion Rail Trail (W&OD) is a 45
mile paved rail trail that runs from Shirlington in Northern
Virginia ending in Purcellville, Va. The
trail passes through Falls Church, Vienna, Herndon, Reston,
Leesburg.
The
W&OD is named after the railroad that ran this route until
1968.
This
popular trail completed in 1988 travels through both residential
and wooded areas with many opportunities for refreshment and
B&B lodging. Parking is available along the trail in Shirlington,
Arlington, Dunn Loring, Vienna, Reston, Herndon, Sterling,
Ashburn, Leesburg and Purcellville.
