Sugar River State Trail Overview
The
Sugar River State Trail is
a 24 mile rail trail that runs from New Glarus to Brodhead in South Central Wisconsin. The trail passes through Monticello, Albany on the way to Broadhead.
This trail has good shade for riding and passes through woodlands, meadows, Woods farmland, rolling hills. The trail has fourteen railroad trstles it cross over along the route near the Sugar River.In New Glarus the trail maintains a headquarters in a restored 1887 railroad depot. The building is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
The Sugar River Trail connects to New Glarus Woods State Park via a short connector trail. New Glarus Woods is a 431 acre state park that offers camp sites, picnic areas and hiking paths.
Both New Glarus and Broadhead have bicycle shops for repairs or parts. There are restrooms and water available at New Glarus, Albany, Monticello and Brodhead.
Please note that anyone
age 16 or older must have a state trail pass in order to bicycle
or skate on the trail. See Below.
